Niantic has hired the team behind gameplay recording and sharing app Lowkey to accelerate its social experiences.
Lowkey is described as a “social gaming platform” that lets users capture and share gameplay moments with ease.
Niantic said it and Lowkey share a common vision for “building community around shared experiences,” and the two teams will now work together to build new social tools that contribute to that goal.
“Our long-term vision is to create even deeper connections across Niantic games and continue bringing people together in the physical world,” reads a Niantic blog.
“We look forward to bringing the Lowkey team onboard to build the future of Niantic social experiences, and make a positive impact on people’s lives.”
2021 has been a busy year for Niantic. Earlier this month, the Pokemon Go developer netted $300 million to create a “real-world metaverse” and made its AR tech available for licensing.
Prior to that, the company launched Pikmin Bloom, announced the closure of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, and purchased developer experience company Hoss.
